"Matter Never Dies"

This is a continuing series of work that is influenced by the Einstein quote "Matter never dies, it just changes form." I am also thinking about part-to-whole relationships in this work.

Each piece is constructed from topographical map copies and found objects.  The objects in each piece were found in the place depicted on the map.  They are completely covered with torn map pieces, relating to the fact that they are composed of the matter and energy of the place from which they came.

The paper maps are stained with dyes I make from native plants.  The finished piece is coated with four or more layers of acrylic medium and/or wax, as protection from sun and dirt. Found objects are coated with acrylic as well.
